About Stan Mays
Started in the zoo field over 30 years ago first as a volunteer at the Tulsa Zoo and then as a maintenance worker. Received his B.S. and M.S. in Zoology at Oklahoma State University. While finishing his M.S., worked at the San Antonio Zoo before accepting a job at the Houston Zoo.
Has been at the Houston Zoo for over 28 years and has held the position of Curator of Herpetology for the past eleven years. Has also held the position of Adjunct Faculty at San Jacinto Community College for 19 years, and is a Guest lecturer in Herpetology at Rice University.
He has been the Secretary to the Chelonian Advisory Group Steering Committee since 1999. He was also the Secretary of the Snake Advisory Group from 1999 until 2007.
